Founded in 1978, Alpha One provides Independent Living (IL) services statewide to enable Maine residents with a disability to live and thrive independently at home and in the community. We support people with all types of disabilities, including physical/mobility; sensory (vision, hearing); cognitive/neurological (e.g., traumatic brain injury, stroke, learning differences); intellectual and developmental (e.g., Down syndrome, autism spectrum); mental health/psychiatric (e.g., anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD); non-apparent or chronic health disabilities, and more.
Alpha One Independent Living (IL) Specialists are available to meet in person with you, the consumer, at your home, workplace, school, or in the community, or by virtual meeting to complete an IL evaluation. You make the choice of preferred means and location. Alpha One IL Specialists are available to meet with you statewide.
During the Independent Living (IL) evaluation, you will work with an Alpha One IL Specialist to identify your goals and develop the steps needed to achieve them. This will result in your individualized Independent Living Plan (ILP). It’s Free: There is no charge for developing and implementing your ILP!

Implementing Your INDEPENDENT LIVING PLAN (ILP)
As you pursue your individualized Independent Living Plan, Alpha One IL Specialists will be available to provide continued skills training, resource research, information, and support. You, the consumer, are in control of deciding how, when, and at what pace you wish to pursue your goals. The number and frequency of IL Skills Training visits with an Alpha One IL Specialist is your choice. Alpha One IL Staff will be there for you when you make the call.
