As a Center for Independent Living (CIL), Alpha One is providing monthly peer support group meetings to connect individuals with a disability to share experiences and provide mutual support.
These peer support group meetings will be held virtually (via Zoom) in order to connect Mainers with a disability statewide. Led by peers with lived disability experience, our peer support meetings seek to offer a space to develop skills, navigate challenges like access barriers or advocacy, and build community.
What our peer support group seeks to offer:
- Mutual support: A safe, non-judgmental space to connect with others who understand your experiences.
- Skill development: Learn and practice coping, problem-solving, and stress management skills.
- Advocacy: Get support and guidance on advocating for yourself in areas like housing, employment, and healthcare.
- Community and resources: Connect with others, build peer relationships, and get suggestions to other community resources or programs.
The topics for each monthly meeting will be selected by people with a disability who attend the peer support meetings. Here’s the schedule for the next 12 months and topics for the next meeting:
March 18th, 2026 – 2:00pm-3:15pm
